Our research and experience have reached the following conclusions with regard to choosing an effective domain name for improved SEO. 1. The domain name must be in English. 2. Not more than three words should comprise it. 3. If possible it should contain .com extension and not .net, .org., etc. 4. Characters that are special, such as “-”, should not be a part of it.
2. There must be no more than three words in it. I have noticed a lot of people making this mistake over and over. One example would be www.seoexplain.com. Obviously, this domain name is the combination of two words: SEO and EXPLAIN. As many as three words can be utilized, but using more than three is definitely not recommended.
2. It cannot be longer than three words. I’ve witnessed lots of folks repeating this mistake over and over. Using www.seoexplain.com as an example, note that two words build this domain name, which are “SEO”, and “EXPLAIN”, as you can employ as many as three words, and more than this is absolutely not recommended.
3. Its extension needs to be .com. This doesn’t appear to be a problem in SEO, however the research and surveys we reviewed showed that .com will be more useful. Frequently the name you want is not available with a .com domain; however, you can select an extension that is different, such as the same name with .net. Because most people are familiar with the .com extension, it is possible that you will lose visitors to a website that does not belong to you if you utilize an extension other than .com. If they don’t forget the name (“seoexplain”) and but cannot recall the entire domain, they will attempt to get to it by using a .com extension. Keep in mind that all the most widely used Internet browsers are set to open to a .com domain by default when an extension is not provided. 4. There should not be any characters that are special, such as “-”. Here too, matters to actual users instead of search engines. Generally, a domain written as seoexplain.com will be more easily recalled than the same terms separated by a hyphen.
Tips: If you are considering beginning your site, the recommendation is to not wait with regard to figuring the name out and buying the domain; buying the hosting service, developing the site, and everything else can come later. It is a proven fact that domains that are older do well on SEO. The recommendation is that you register your domain name for two years plus. Major search engines consider domains registered for only one year as possible spam. In terms of SEO and your Internet business, domain lifespan is a primary consideration.
